What is play-based parenting exactly? Why did I build a website based on this concept? Play Based Parenting was the name I came up with when I was trying to combine all the things I loved about being a parent with my interest in childhood education and development. There are so many amazing transformations that occur during a child’s development as they grow and learn.
The concept of PBP combines all aspects playful parenting, teaching children, connecting through play, offering rich environments where play-based learning occurs naturally, positive parenting, creating ah-huh moments (for them and yourself), and making lots of memories full of fun, novelty and adventure.
I wanted to build a website based on all these passions, and share my adventures with my children, in the aim of inspiring others to become a play based parent who not only provides playful learning experiences for their children but is often involved and ‘parenting’ in the process. Remember parenting isn’t just about raising children, it is about your journey, your experience, your presence, the influence you have and your growth together.
By providing children with play, parents give themself endless opportunities to teach, learn, explore, discuss, observe, role model, parent and connect with their child. Play is a crucial part of child development, it is necessary and it is hard work because it is how children learn. Through play, children learn so much about their world and I believe an important part of being a parent, is to provide this for them.
There are multiple ways to be a play based parent and it really depends on you, your personality, characteristics, and your child. The main thing is to let your children play, encourage play, get involved in play as often as possible and just have a playful positive attitude.
