Australia Day is in a couple of days so we did some themed painting and experimented with glue and water colour paints making this Australian Wattle painting for kids. Dimples was keen to paint during the holidays, so on a miserable home day we did some Australian wattle painting for kids and made it with 3D effects.
How to do an Australian Wattle Painting for kids.
You will need:
- PVA glue,
- acrylic paint,
- water colour paint,
- salt
- and a cotton tip.
Step 1.
First we added some green acrylic paint into a PVA glue bottle and shook the hell out of it until it was green glue. Then we did our 3D glue branches.
Step 2.
Using some yellow paint mixed into some glue. We then used a cotton tip to dot on wattle flowers around the tips of the branches.
Step 3.
We set this aside and let it dry. This makes the branches and wattle flowers harden, feel bumpy and have a 3D effect. It also makes them water paint resistant.
Step 4.
We used some water colour paint to fill in our background. Dimples did a stormy looking sky using shades of blue and a dark purple. The water colour paint goes straight over the top of our Australian wattle painting and beads up as the glue is now water resistant. This means it is super easy for kids.
To add another effect to his painting Dimples sprinkled salt over the watercolour paint as it was still wet. The paint circles around the salt and dried with a sotted cool effect, like rain drops on a stormy day.
