A New Years Eve idea for kids – Reflect and develop new goals.
The Best of 2016 form is a really fun way for children to think of all their best and most memorable moments of the past year. Reflecting on their year, friends, likes/dislikes, how they have progressed, changed, things they have learnt or achieved and things they want to do better at next year. This new years activity for children is a nice way to introduce new years resolutions subtly to children with the aim of encouraging them to develop their own dreams.
How to record childrens memories with the New Years Eve Printable.
Simply print out the New Years Eve record kids memories for 2016 and help your child fill it out. It is a good idea to sit down when you have some one-on-one time and reflect on some memorable moments together. Children wont remember the same things that you do, so a little reminder might get you reminiscing together. You might also notice that they remember something in high detail and really cherish a moment that you thought was quite trivial. For that reason it is nice to be there with them and guide them through the questions but let them come up with their own answers, special memories and goals.
Happy New Year Play-Based Parenting Readers.
Once your child has completed the form there is a circle for them to draw their dream for 2017. Instead of creating a resolution which in some ways can be interpreted as a symbol of failure for the year just past, we create a positive goal or a dream. So instead of focusing on something we want to change about ourself or something we haven’t achieved (like a resolution), we focus on setting a goal. For instance, “I want to learn how to surf” “I am going to write a short story” “I hope to get my silver achievement award”. In this sense you are creating a positive goal and something to work towards. Encouraging children to always try new things and work towards something instead of pondering on something they haven’t yet been able to attain.
On completion you can stick the record of your child’s best memories in with their school photos and reports so you both can look back on it in the future and compare their goals as the years go by.
Wishing you all a safe and memorable New Year. I hope you can use this New Year’s Eve idea for kids and share the record keeping printable to reminisce with your child and keep track of their best memories of 2016. Wishing you lots of special moments in 2017.
